What do people think of the British and American versions of the Office and which ones do they prefer?

Personally I like the British one because although it's a slow burner it is simply the cleverest comedy for years.

You should be able to get it off a DVD rental club. If you are a fan of the American office then it will be worthwhile, but there are probably a lot of British cultural references that may be hard to get.

I get the UK humour, so I liked it, but the US version is so much better put together that I prefer it.

I am a fan of the slick TV series, but I think that the whole point of the office is to make the person not want to either turn off or keep the TV on. The American show misses that cringe factor in my opinion:

Favourite David Brent quotes:

I really want to get my hands on the British version, just haven't got around to it. I think I'm pretty Americanized, so I wonder if I'd like it...

I'd be really interested to find out. The British version got a cult following - particularly among entertainment types. However it is slower and less intense than your average American sitcom and it is filled with British cultural references.

Would it still translate?

Edit: I hope that it's OK to put in links to videos from the TV channel! Take it out if it's against the rules.

i've never seen the american one, but i loved the british. i think part of me avoids the american version because i don't want it to take anything away from the one i already love.

Do you mean that you have never seen it or that you never got the humor?

There are similarities, and the American version is undoubtedly funny, but I suppose the British version simply lets the cringe take its course. Many people thought it was a documentary when it first came out.
